Ashland acquires the rights to Valspar gelcoat unsaturated polyester resin blends Ashland Inc. announced it has acquired the rights to a majority of the gelcoat unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) blend technologies from The Valspar Corporation. The transaction includes the technologies, formulations and processing information for the gelcoat and UPR blend products but does not include any of Valspar’s manufacturing facilities.

BASF and Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research inaugurate joint research laboratory for graphene BASF and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P) opened their joint research and development platform, the Carbon Materials Innovation Center (CMIC), at BASF’s Ludwigshafen site. A multidisciplinary task force will research the scientific principles and potential applications of innovative carbonized materials. The twelve-member international team is composed of chemists, physicists and material scientists. The activities conducted in the 200 square meter laboratory will include synthesizing and characterizing new materials and evaluating their potential uses in energy and electronic applications. The total investment for the joint research and development platform amounts to €10 million. Prototype and homologation material has been supplied since 2011 and series production will begin in 2013.

Founded in 1997, Bond-Laminates is based in Brilon, North Rhine Westphalia, and specializes in developing and producing custom-made plastic composite sheets that are reinforced with materials such as glass fibers. This composite technology is sold under the brand Tepex. Lanxess has already been working with Bond-Laminates since 2006 on several successful projects with the automotive industry.

To celebrate, the company launched on 09/12 the cornerstone of the plant that will be built in Itupeva, also in São Paulo.
