Multiplast's C Class made of TPT®
By
Groupama has just won this year's Little America's Cup in
September. For the race, Groupama had asked the Multiplast
shipyard to make the hulls for an ultra-lightweight C Class
catamaran using Thin Ply Technology®, or TPT®. The technology enables layup of ultra-thin plies to optimize the weight and
mechanical properties of composite materials. It has already won
over a number of Multiplast customers, especially those in the
aerospace and defence sectors. The latest generation of the TPT®
layup machine will be delivered to Multiplast in December.

he rules are simple: two crewmen on a catamaran no more
than 7.62 metres long and 4.2
metres wide, with a maximum sail
surface area of 27.8 m². The Little
America's Cup leaves ample room
for innovation and serves as a veritable laboratory for its big sister, the
America's Cup, which was run this
year under multihull class rules. Rigid
wings and foils were extensively developed for this race, as were a number of
other innovative systems.

length 31.50 m), built at Multiplast.
And more recently, the Groupama 4,
a 70 ft. monohull built at the same

The latest Little America's Cup took
place on 23-28 September 2013 at
Falmouth (UK), and was the perfect
occasion for the Groupama Sailing
Team's technical crew to get "into
shape". And it obviously did, given
Groupama's fine victory over the
other top-level crews! The crew has
already accompanied Franck Cammas
