Annual Review 2008 - (Page 4) The New Building Blocks As technology continued to change the design industry, Dewberry kept pace in 2008 by training designers in building information modeling (BIM) and implementing 3D site and civil engineering. The firm also developed and tested new systems and procedures in geospatial information, floodplain mapping, emergency management, and surveying. PSA-Dewberry continued construction phase services for the U.S. Courthouse in Rockford, Illinois, scheduled for completion in 2010. Working with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), PSA-Dewberry developed a 3D model of the project prior to bid. By using BIM, the team experienced a level of analysis—verifying the program and performing code compliance, as well as accomplishing detailed systems integration and conflict resolution—that would have 4 | 2008 Annual Review | www.dewberry.com Tapping been extremely difficult with a traditional construction document process. (Mike Justice, LEED AP, Project Architect) Taking an innovative approach to asset mapping for use in multiple project scenarios, Dewberry has developed a comprehensive geospatial data management system as a solution for data collection and dissemination. ArcGIS Mobile is used with global positioning system (GPS) collectors to submit mapping-grade data in real-time to a centralized GIS database, which is then accessed by the client and Dewberry through a web mapping interface. The workflow process is streamlined, eliminating the need for data migration and physical data deliveries, and provides integrated quality assurance.
