Annual Review 2008 - (Page 5) As today’s computer systems change so does the demand placed on a company’s datacenter. In 2008 Dewberry designed and constructed a datacenter that reduces physical space requirements by 50%, power requirements by 25%, and cooling energy up to 75% through the use of a Hot Aisle Containment System (HACS) and variable fan drives. Through virtualization and HACS, Dewberry has the ability to increase resources in a moment’s notice without downtime. (Sean Reney, MCSE, datacenter manager) Keeping cool in the heart of Dewberry’s operations, Mike, Shane, Steve, Sean, and Joe (left to right) stand ready to tackle new technological challenges. Technology for Diverse Solutions With quantifiable risk reduction a primary concern for emergency managers, Dewberry has been developing toolsets to enhance the use of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s HAZUS software. HAZUS is a planning tool used by emergency managers to estimate damage and losses resulting from natural hazards, such as flood events. To help communities and ultimately FEMA reach its goal of significant flood risk reduction, Dewberry has developed best-practice workflows and tools to more seamlessly integrate flood engineering and mapping data within a HAZUS risk analysis. This ultimately will provide communities with more robust results for their mitigation planning efforts. (Steve Kalaf, CFM, Team Leader) This year, Dewberry also tested and implemented new digital surveying equipment at multiple project sites. For Dulles Transit Partners, a joint venture of Bechtel and Washington Group, Dewberry is providing multiple design services and was tasked with surveying existing conditions of multiple sites along the future metrorail corridor, to include 6,600 feet of roadway along busy Virginia Route 7; 5,000 feet of existing rail in the area of the West Falls Church Metro station; 23 underground relocation jack and bore sites along several thousand feet of Virginia Route 123; and two structures and a bridge abutment along the planned right-of-way. Using 3D laser scanning, Dewberry provided the client with digital models prior to design as well as a comprehensive risk management tool.
