Annual Review 2008 - (Page 7) Dewberry employees are working with clients to move the economy forward, even during difficult times. Paul, Dave, Mary, and Shawn (left to right) stand within the Swedwood manufacturing plant, a subsidiary of The Ikea Group. Opened in 2008, the 930,000-squarefoot factory sits on 200 acres and now employs approximately 250 people with an additional 50 to be added in 2009. This is the first of a four-phase, $281-million project. Three additional phases for the manufacturing plant are planned for the 740-acre Cane Creek Centre, located in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, bringing hundreds of additional jobs to the area. Several years ago, Southside Virginia was devastated by the second largest unemployment rate in the country. The speed at which Dewberry performed the site, civil engineering, and permitting services was a deciding factor in Swedwood selecting the Cane Creek Centre site for its new plant.
