Grand Pre, John m. toups *also Board of Directors Event Explores Green Building and Carbon Trading Market On March 6, 2008, the Virginia Sustainable Building Network, in partnership with Dewberry, hosted civic leaders, non-governmental organization representatives and Congressmen Tom Davis and Jim Moran of Virginia for the Carbon Trading-Green Building Connection. Held at Dewberry’s headquarters in Fairfax, the event began with the two Congressmen giving a candid overview of pending federal legislation on mandatory cap and trade carbon programs. Derik Broekoff of the World Resources Institute defined for many participants what the voluntary carbon trading market is and gave an overview of the market’s status. Estimating the value of a green building in a carbon trading market was presented by Dr. Chris Pyke of CTG Energetics Inc. Jay Fisette, a member of the Arlington County Board in Virginia, led a discussion on how Washington, DC, area governments are addressing the issue of carbon reduction.
