Cultural and Historic
Resources Resilience
Post Superstorm Sandy, the Connecticut Department
of Economic and Community Development's State
Historic Preservation Office received approximately $8
million in grant funding from the Department of the
Interior's National Park Service for hurricane recovery
and planning. Part of that funding was designed to
develop solutions to make historical sites more resilient.
With more than 3,500 registered historic resources
in its four coastal counties, the state recognized
the importance of balancing historic preservation
with coastal and other resilience initiatives. As a
subcontractor to R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates,
Inc., Dewberry provided resilience planning consulting
services to 28 communities fronting Long Island Sound.
Dewberry also performed geographic information
services for historic properties and cultural resources
for communities in Connecticut's four coastal counties.
Residential Mid-Rise Developed
in Downtown Orlando
The Sevens is one of the next-generation apartment
complexes developed in the North Quarter district
of downtown Orlando, Florida. As a consultant to
The Pizzuti Companies, Dewberry provided site/
civil engineering services, including building siting,
stormwater management, and utilities. The firm
managed permitting processes for the City of Orlando,
St. Johns River Water Management District, Orlando
Utilities Commission, and the Florida Department
of Transportation, and provided site survey and
construction-level survey services.
Updating a Highly Populated Marina
The Shell Point Public Boating Facility is located in north
Florida and is known for having the quickest route to the
Gulf of Mexico. Dewberry designed a concrete boat ramp
using a push slab/cast-in-place method, and a floating dock
system anchored by treated timber piles. The design included
a system of bollard lights, which serve a dual purpose of
boater safety and protection from light pollution for the local
sea turtle population. Improvements also included concrete
sidewalks; a stormwater facility; landscaping; and water,
sewer, and electrical utilities.
