Biofuels Journal - September/October 2008 - (Page 100) informed in mid-August of Energy Alternative Solutions’ plan to build a 2.5MMGY biodiesel plant within the city limits, which will use waste vegetable oil and virgin oil feedstocks. The plant would employ 25 people and cost $4.5 million to build. San • The city Francisco of San Francisco is considerFirebaugh ing building a biodiesel plant at Pier 92. The plant is expected to produce 10 MMGY using cooking oils and fats as feedstocks. If approved, the plant will be the second planned for the city. • In May, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission received a $1 million grant to build a pilot plant, which would use more than 2.5 MMGY of brown grease—pan scraping and oil residues from restaurant sinks—to convert to biodiesel. Colorado Morgan County in late August approved a special use permit for Rocky Mountain Sustainable Energy to build a 4.5-MMGY biodiesel plant. Morgan County The plant would employ six to 10 people once construction is completed in early 2009. The plant will be served by the Morgan County Quality Water District and the Morgan County Rural Electric Association. Connecticut According to court-appointed receiver Carlton Helming, F&S invested $4 million in the plant. Florida A 5-MMGY biodiesel plant in Cheshire was auctioned Oct. 23. The 7,500Cheshire square-foot building was the remaining asset from bankrupt F&S Oil Co. that was liquidated in April. • In late August, U.S. EnviroFuels, LLC sold its 22-acre tract in Port Sutton to Texas basedGreenHunter Groveland Energy. U.S. EnvironFuels Port Sutton had planned to build a 44Miami MMGY ethanol plant, but GreenHunter now intends to construct a 50-MMGY, $100 million biodiesel plant on the site. The plant will produce biodiesel from vegetable oils, animal fats and jatropha. The plant should be fully operational by 2010 and employ 40 to 50 people. • Miami-based Biomix Energy Corp. plants to open a new $95 million biodiesel plant on three acres along the Miami River. • Plans to build three biodiesel plants in Groveland in 2009 are on the drawing board. City officials say the three plants— CleanFuel LLC; Southern Energy Holdings Inc.; and Summit Biodiesel—could create up to 100 jobs that pay a minimum of $15 an hour. Kentucky Southland Renewable Fuels says a $72 million biodiesel plant, planned near Paducah, still will be built regardless of whether McCracken Paducah Fiscal Court grants the company a $1 million local government loan. The plant also is still looking for a site after original plans to build at the Riverport West Industrial Park were halted due to the land being taken for a coal-to-diesel plant. Louisiana Dynamic Fuels LLC has picked Houston, TX-based L-Con Constructors as the lead contractor for the company’s first renewable synthetic fuels plant to be built in Geismar. L-Con will provide engineering, proResponse No. 1001 100 BFJ | SEPT/OCT 08
