Camelina Biofuels Great Plains Partners With EERC For New Fuel Huttenbauer, will be the production of the fuel at the EERC pilot facility in Grand Forks. “We will be producing significant amounts of fuel by the end of 2009,” Huttenbauer said. “Very rapidly, we plan on producing the fuel on a commercial scale,” he added. Camelina could be the feedstock for a new biofuel being developed by Great Plains—Camelina Company and the Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC). Great Plains—The Camelina Company, Cincinnati, OH, has partnered with the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, to utilize EERC’s proprietary technology to produce a gasoline, diesel and jet fuel-equivalent fuel utilizing camelina as a feedstock. “This new next generation biofuel is truly a breakthrough in our quest for alternative fuels. This is chemically equivalent to petroleum-based fuels produced through a standard refinery,” said Sam Huttenbauer Jr., Great Plains chief development officer (513-825-8770). Furthermore, like petroleum, this technology could yield many of the components found in petroleum, he noted. Huttenbauer said Great Plains has researched and developed the science of camelina for more than 10 years and for the past three years contracted with growers in the states of Montana and Washington and in Canada to grow the crop.
