Biofuels Journal - September/October 2008 - (Page 123) Service Review Antioch International Inc. engineers and manages biofuels rail projects. “We specialize in rail projects for the agricultural industry,” said President William Jones. He said Antioch will design rail track layouts to meet the specific needs of the client, negotiating with the rail carrier to ensure it also meets the railroad’s requirements. “Some rail carriers will want to have the track built a certain way,” Jones said. “We will negotiate with the carrier to persuade it to agree to a design product that is in the best interest of the client.” In addition, Antioch will help plants with unit train needs, and with shipping and receiving multiple commodities such as feedstocks, fuel, and distillers grains. Antioch International, founded in 1997, has been working with the ethanol industry since 2001 and also works with biodiesel plants. Jones said Antioch pioneered the loop-track concept for unit trains. In addition, all of the key employees at the firm have at least 30 years experience in the rail industry, Jones noted. The company, which originally was based in Omaha, NE, relocated to New Braunfels, TX, in 2008 and has offices in Omaha and Rice Lake, WI. Services Antioch International offers the following rail design services: • Site selection. • Feasibility studies. • All civil engineering elements of rail design, such as grading, drainage, and erosion control. • Write bid specifications. • Act as the owner’s construction representative to ensure quality workmanship. • Prepare as-built drawings for future expansion. Aeroglide custom-designs a DDGS dryer for the needs of the customer. One option is the three-pass rotary, which puts the material through three layers of drying in the same tube for maximum efficiency and little loss of heat transfer. Aeroglide Corp. began in the potato and grain drying business in 1940 and has been drying grains and distillers grains for the beverage alcohol industry for 35 years. The Cary, NC-based company became active in the fuel ethanol production industry in the early 1990s. In addition to drying DDGS, Aeroglide also is involved in drying materials for cellulosic ethanol and biomass for energy. Products Products offered by Aeroglide include: • Conveyor-based dryer systems— single-pass, multi-pass, multistage, dual-plenum, and in-line airflow. • Rapid high-heat transfer systems — fluid bed, impingement. • Truck/tray dryers and ovens, rotary dryers, suction drum dryers, festoon dryers, tower dryers. • Puffers and toasters, dry roasters, spin cookers and coolers, vertical coolers, blanchers, dryer accessories. • System controls.
