Meanwhile, a 5-million-gallon-capacity ethanol storage terminal opened in Boligee, AL, with plans by TEPPCO to construct three more terminals (p.14). Kinder Morgan is ready to send ethanol through a Florida Pipeline originally designed to be dedicated to gasoline only (p.15). The American Oil Pipeline Association’s pipeline study indicates E10 is safe to transport through pipelines (p.16). Fire fighers, first responders, and ethanol plant employees are preparing to deal with ethanol transportation emergencies (p.17). Non-accidental releases of ethanol are decreasing, even as rail shipments of ethanol continue to rise (p.18). Ethanol features: In this issue, we feature a unique ethanol plant, Renew Energy in Jefferson, WI, which includes state-of-the-art design by Delta-T and fractionation by Cereal Process Technologies (p.24). We also feature POET’s new plant in Alexandria, IN (p. 40). Biodiesel features: REG Houston’s new biodiesel plant is co-located to take advantage of storage and shipping logistics (p.76), and Innovation Fuels is located in the New York harbor for access to international markets (p.88). A six-month study by the National Biodiesel Board is being conducted to check for emissions from B5 and B99 (p.94). Cellulosic ethanol features: An ARS/North Dakota study shows switchgrass provides more carbon for soil (p.115), and Clemson University is poised to open a pilot cellulosic plant (p.116). Other news: Future waivers of the Renewable Fuels Standard will require more analysis (p. 110). Did you know? The nation’s first biofuels corridor has been established along Interstate 65 spanning from Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico, featuring 31 retail E85 stations along the four-state, 886-mile route (p.30).
