Grain Journal - January/February 2009 - (Page 117) FUTURES MGEX Breaks Daily Electronic Trade Record The Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX) on Jan. 23 set a new daily electronics futures trading record of Hard Red Spring Wheat (HRSW) and Hard Red Winter Wheat Index Futures of 7,494 contracts. “I’m pleased to see the marketplace continues to look to the exchange and our flagship contract for both investment and risk management activity,” said Mark G. Bagan, president and CEO. “We continue to enhance our electronic marketplace, thereby increasing the availability and liquidity of our products,” Bagan said. The contracts will be listed, traded, and settled by the JSE’s Safex Agricultural Products Division along, with the South African grain contracts. The 100-metric-ton corn contract will see the May, July, and September 2009 expires introduced for trading on Jan. 28. KCBT Clearing Corp.
