Grain Journal - January/February 2009 - (Page 165) Safety DVD NGFA AND GEAPS TO OFFER NEW GENERAL SAFETY DVD IN JUNE The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) and Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) will offer a new safety education DVD and training materials for employees of grain-handling, feed-manufacturing, and grain operations facilities in June. Developed by the NGFA/ GEAPS Safety, Health, and Environmental Quality Committee, the DVD will be modeled after GEAPS’ Common Hazards/Common Sense video which was produced in 1988 following issuance of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Grain Handling Safety Standard (29 CFR 1910.272). Nineteen companies already have committed to financially sponsor development of the DVD and associated training materials with contributions of $2,500 each. In addition, both the National Grain and Feed Foundation and GEAPS pledged $10,000 in up-front investments to finance a portion of the cost of the DVD and associated training materials. Topics The 30-minute DVD, which also will be available in Spanish, will address the following topics: • Fires and explosions. • Confined space and bin entry. • Truck and rail safety (such as fall protection). • Safe operation of equipment (such as proper lockout and tagout procedures). • Ladder safety. • Personal protective equipment. • Manlifts. • Electrical safety. • Hazard communication. • First aid. • Emergency action plans. • Facility security.
