Grain Journal - July/August 2008 - (Page 88) Dan Mack Interview RAIL SYSTEM CAPACITY HAS BECOME AN ISSUE OF CONCERN TO GRAIN SHIPPERS Dan Mack, who serves as chairman of the National Grain and Feed Association’s (NGFA) Rail Shipper and Receiver Committee, has a career that includes both the grain and railroad industries. A native of Harvey, ND, Mack has a farm background and earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from North Dakota State University. His career in the grain industry dates back to 1988, when he started as a merchandiser with the former Continental Grain Co. Later, he was a country grain elevator manager and worked in agricultural marketing for the Canadian Pacific Railroad, before joining CHS in 1998. Currently, he is vice president of transportation for the cooperative. Grain Journal interviewed Mack in June at his office in Inver Grove Heights, MN, about transporationrelated issues facing the grain industry. System Capacity One issue of concern to the grain industry is whether our transportation infrastructure will have adequate capacity to allow business to grow in a competitive economic environment.
