COMPUTER SOFTWARE CASE STUDY Scale Management Improved AGMARK TERMINAL MANAGER CITES SOFTWARE FOR IMPROVED CUSTOMER SERVICE Saving time and labor, along with better customer service, are among the many benefits of the John Deere Agri Services oneWeigh™ scale management system cited by Derek Sandmann, terminal manager at AgMark, LLC, in Concordia, KS (785-243-1797). Prior to Sandmann’s arrival nearly three years ago, the facility was using a different scale system with John Deere Agri Services’ AGRIS V9 grain accounting software. At that time, AgMark President Jeff Bechard had John Deere Agri Services change the facility’s inbound and outbound scale management system and put in the oneWeigh system. “With two different systems (for accounting and scale management), there were always issues of information transfer between them,” says Sandmann, “and our customer service also needed improvement.” Message Board The oneWeigh scale management system features a LED message board, one foot by 5 feet in size, that displays it, because it shows the correct customer name,” he says. Sandmann says the cooperative is considering adding the oneWeigh RFID tag option, which allows the truck driver to swipe a card at a reader which will improve accuracy in the transaction. “This will allow the driver to use the card when he crosses the scale both inbound and outbound, and it triggers the oneWeigh system to print a scale ticket.” Derek Sandmann, terminal manager for AgMark, LLC in Concordia, KS. to a truck driver the information that is being recorded by the scale operator. “The operator can really be busy at times, and the message board saves a considerable amount of time in communicating with the trucks,” he says. The message board option with the John Deere Agri Services oneWeigh package reports test weight, moisture, account information, customer information, and even indicates the pit number for the truck driver to unload. “Producers particularly like Easy Service Sandmann says his colleagues at AgMark also like the serviceability of the oneWeigh software. “We were having problems with the prior system and tech support. But now, our in-house technical staff can do more of the work on the system. Even our office staff has the ability to use the diagnostics in the system to solve any problems that might arise,” says Sandmann, who adds that his company uses a Dell service network, and all 21 of the AgMark locations are networked with each other.
