Mueller explains the company still sells products and provides the necessary technical expertise on their proper use to those plants that still use in-house service personnel to apply them, but that those sales represent only approximately 15% of IFC’s business today. “Our business is heavily regulated, so it is incumbent upon us to be certain the people who are buying our products know how to use them properly and effectively.” The Industrial Fumigant Co. has over 100 service trucks and technicians nationwide. Regulations Besides meeting various state and federal mandates regarding the use of pesticides, IFC’s work also must pass routine inspections by third-party auditors such as the American Institute of Baking (AIB). AIB has been performing third-party audits of the food industry for many years and was founded in 1919. Headquartered in Manhattan, KS, AIB says the goal of its inspections is education and safety. “Along with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), organizations like AIB originally set the standard for sanitation and pest management requirements,” Mueller says. “Their comprehensive inspections, as well as other third-party auditing firms, determine whether or not IFC and the customer are meeting its benchmark and how it complies with the standard.” Mueller added that IFC’s pest management programs meet or exceed the requirements of governmental regulatory agencies and the precepts of the new 2009 AIB Standards. “One of the main goals of our extensive training program at IFC is protecting our client’s brand and products,” Mueller explains. “Equally important is the emphasis we place on compliance with regulations and labeling, in general. We like to think we’ve raised the bar on guarding food safety, and by taking this approach, we feel we are doing everything possible Response No. 291 MILLING JOURNAL First Quarter 2009 29 http://www.dwyer-inst.com http://www.dwyer-inst.com
