Milling Journal - Q2 2008 - (Page 38) New Ingredient Facility Food-grade processor builds in Osage, IA NFI Iowa LLC is building a new, food-grade ingredient manufacturing facility in Osage, IA that will process grains and oilseeds into soluble powders and beverages. NFI Iowa is a partnership between nutr-e Food Innovation, Collierville, TN and Northern Iowa Grain Processing, Riceville, IA. Ground was broken for the new 6,000-square-foot facility in September 2007. The plant, which eventually will employ a staff of eight, will be fully operational in June. “NFI Iowa uses an innovative food production process that processes any grain or oilseed into a fully soluble powder or beverage,” said nutr-e Food Innovation Chief Operating Officer Ann Stroup. “The nutraceutical traits of the input seed are preserved from the seed through the finished product,” Stroup said. Stroup added that the technology has diverse implications for the functionality and properties of the end ingredient, including protein concentration, encapsulation of the lipid fraction, hydrolyzed starch, and custom-designed combinations of grains or oilseeds. Stroup said nutr-e Food Innovation uses the same process that NFI Iowa will use. She said the company currently makes a number of products from amaranth. Frank Zaworski, editor NFI Iowa will be housed in this new plant in Osage, IA. Response No. 381 38 Second Quarter 2008 MILLING JOURNAL http://www.bliss-industries.com
