Farris said the association will be transferring its database to web-based software. The change will allow for instant updating of member information, immediate confirmation of all on-line transactions, and immediate charges to credit cards, where appropriate. The upgrade also will allow members to maintain and update their own membership information and to shop for IAOM products and services via a “shopping cart” function, similar to shopping on sites like Amazon.com and many commercial retail sites. Cash Reserves Over time, Farris said, the IAOM has built up a certain amount of cash reserves. The board in May approved an investment policy statement and directed Farris to hire a financial advisor to determine the best investment strategy to maximize those returns for the association. A report was expected to be made to the board in October. One potential use for those reserves, she said, may be for the IAOM to purchase its own building somewhere in the greater Kansas City area. The association currently leases office space in Suite104 at 5001 College Blvd. in Leawood, KS. Farris commented that the current IAOM offices have a lot of inefficient space, such as a large hallway that cannot be used for other purposes. The current office space also lacks a meeting room, which potentially could be used for IAOM activities instead of renting hotel space. Upcoming Committee Meetings Dates have yet to be set for the association’s January committee meetings, where among other items, the educational program for the upcoming technical conference is finalized. The meeting will be held in San Diego, CA. 14 Third Quarter 2008 Response No. 141 MILLING JOURNAL http://www.aomillers.org http://www.iaom.info http://Amazon.com http://www.agriassociates.com http://www.agriassociates.com
