Milling Journal - Q4 2008 - (Page 50) Miller Profile Chad Bontrager Assistant Facility Manager Horizon Milling LLC Chattanooga, TN 423-697-6238 Years with company: 5-1/2 Years in industry: 5-1/2 Family: Wife, Mandy; daughters, Madeline and Addison. Born: March 28, 1982, Holton, KS. Education: 2003: Bachelor’s degree in milling science management degree, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. Career: 2003-04: Production supervisor trainee, Horizon Milling, Wichita, KS. 2004-05: Packing and loading supervisor, Horizon Milling, Wichita. 2005-08: Assistant facility manager, Horizon Milling, Chattanooga, TN. Personal key to success: “Take care of your people, and they will take care of you. I have worked with some very talented individuals and have learned that if I hold up my end, they will hold up theirs.” My best maintenance idea is: “Spend time every day talking with employees and surveying the facility. Employees will report on problems with equipment if they see you, and you will notice equipment problems as you go. In either case, you have a better chance of correcting small problems before they become major failures causing emergency downtime. Then, always follow up.” Best product quality idea: “Effective wheat blending is critical to removing fluctuations in moisture, protein, ash, and stability from the flour. This allows delivery of a more consistent product to the customer.” Biggest challenge: “Finding the time to wear all my hats. There are always more demands on my time than hours in the day. I make sure nothing important falls through the cracks and do so by brutal prioritization. I need other people to help, and it’s my responsibility to maintain working relationships to allow that.” Best cost savings idea: “Regularly scheduled roll changes for production and energy cost savings.” Biggest influence on carreer: “My parents, Mark and Vicki. They taught me how to work hard, be responsible, and keep my word. They showed me how to treat others and how to work cooperatively. Work ethic, reliability, leadership, and communication are critical. I can easily trace what I know about these things back to them.” 50 Fourth Quarter 2008 Response No. 501 MILLING JOURNAL http://www.cordanopackaging.com
