Seed Today - Q2 2008 - (Page 50) Dow AgroSciences Acquires Triumph Seed Dow AgroSciences LLC has expanded its plant biotechnology business with the early March acquisition of Triumph Seed, Ralls, TX. Triumph markets sunflowers, corn, and sorghum across the United States and in approximately 25 countries. Triumph has been one of the industry leaders in sunflowers and was the first company in the industry to market worldwide “short stature” sunflower hybrids. The agreement includes all commercial, production, research and development assets of the business. Noble Koepp, president and owner of Triumph Seed, will continue to work with the business in a number of leadership and strategic planning activities. Dow AgroSciences will continue to market Triumph seed under the Triumph brand to complement the company’s current Mycogen Seeds business. Northstar Genetics Acquires Ziller Seed Co Northstar Genetics, Ltd., a regional seed company in Wanamingo, MN, purchased the soybean and alfalfa retail assets and brand name of Ziller Seed Co., Bird Island, MN in mid-April. “We’re pleased and very excited to continue the tradition Tony and Jeff Ziller have created,” says Northstar Genetics President Dan Hogstad. “They were one of the first soybean-only seed companies, and proved that hard work, great quality seed and outstanding genetics has a place in our seed industry.” Ziller Seed has established a marketing network for soybean and alfalfa seed in southern Minnesota, eastern South Dakota and northern Iowa. Advanta India Acquires Garrison & Townsend Garrison & Townsend L.P. (G&T), Hereford, TX, has been purchased by Advanta India Limited, Bangalore, India. Founded in 1967, G&T is a hybrid grain and forage research, production, conditioning and marketing company. Its products are sold throughout the United States as well as in Italy, Israel, Pakistan, Mexico, Central America, South America, and Japan. Advanta is a global seed company that combines agricultural biotechnology with the proprietary crop genetics and breeding capabilities.
