My personal key to success: PerseverBruce Bailey has served on the board of directors of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) and is currently board president and founding member of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York. “It is gratifying to finally see the wind industry hit its stride after working through the long formative years. I’ve been impressed by the number of committed people who stuck with it.” —Bruce Bailey Bailey Bruce Bailey ruewind wind, AWS T ruewind, LLC President/CEO 463 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205 518-213-0044 bbailey@awstruewind.com www.awstruewind.com The best new wind product/service: Innovative uses for wind flow modeling and forecasting. Modeling and forecasting are now being applied in many ways across the industry to address all sorts of issues ranging from project siting and simulating wind plant operations to transmission system planning and accurate prediction of extreme wind events. What I like about the wind industry: The synergy between meteorology and engineering and the opportunity to help solve the world’s energy and environmental problems. I really enjoy understanding the big picture as well as all the smaller moving pieces. Key to the growth of the industry: Broader realization that wind energy is a game changer and really can be a significant part of the energy mix. As wind energy grows in visibility, more people will appreciate the many benefits wind brings. This will help resolve other barriers, such as the lack of transmission resources. The biggest trend in the industry: National and global acceptance that wind energy is for real and has become mainstream. Importantly, major corporations and politicians now want to be associated with wind energy. Lots of professionals want to switch careers to this exciting growth field. What I predict for the industry in the next three years: There will be continued strong growth, and the pool of hirable employees with wind experience will grow. I believe this country will finally establish a policy supporting long-term clean energy development and an improved transmission system. Hobbies: Tennis, golf, and reading. WIND TODA Y Third Quarter 2008 ance and diversification. I always believed that wind energy would become a significant energy source, but when I first got involved in renewables I didn’t expect it to take this long to get where we are today. I was able to ride through the lean years by also consulting in the solar energy and air quality fields. My biggest challenge: Managing rapid business growth together with hiring and training new staff. Part of my current focus is transforming the company to a more efficient corporate structure; another focus is new business development. I meet that challenge by: Delegation. We have a strong team of directors and senior managers who are committed to the company’s overall values of quality, integrity, and innovation. 102 http://www.awstruewind.com http://www.awstruewind.com
