Stats Manufacturers of Wind T urbines Installed in the United States The American Wind Energy Association released their AWEA 2008 Annual Rankings Report in April. The report (see chart to right) is based on information as of Dec. 31, 2007, as provided by project owners. In the United States in 2007, the wind industry installed more than 3,200 wind turbines, with a total generating capacity of more than 5,200 megawatts (MW). These 2007 installations, along with new installations in January, brought the total U.S. installed wind energy capacity to 16,818 MW. The top seven wind turbine manufacturers in 2007 were: • GE Energy, Schenectady, NY: 1,560 units (1.5 MW wind turbine) totalling 2,340 MW. • Vestas Wind Systems, Denmark: 537 units totalling 953 MW. • Siemens Power Generation, Erlangen, Germany: 375 units (2.3 MW wind turbine) totalling 863 MW. • Gamesa, Madrid, Spain: 287 units (2.0 MW wind turbine) totalling 574 MW. • Mitsubishi Power Systems, Lake Mary, FL: 356 units (1.0 MW turbine) totalling 356 MW.. • Suzlon, Pune, India: 97 units totalling 197 MW. • Clipper Wind Power, Carpinteria, CA: 19 units (2.5 MW wind turbine) totalling 48 MW. • Nordex, Germany: one 2.5 MW wind turbine. 32 WIND TODA Y Third Quarter 2008 http://www.windtodaymarketplace.net http://www.windtodaymarketplace.net http://www.windtoday.net
