Wind Today - Q3 2008 - (Page 8) Events CanWEA’s 24th Annual Conference and T rade Show Oct. 19-22 | Conference and Exhibition Schedule The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) invites the wind industry to launch Fast Forward to Wind at its 24th Annual Conference and Trade Show, Oct. 19-22 in Vancouver, BC. According to Ulrike Kucera, media relations for CanWEA, Ottawa, ON (613-234-8716), the association expects more than 2,000 delegates to attend this year’s conference. The trade show is sold out with 210 exhibitors. On Tuesday morning, in addition to regular attendees, says Kucera, students from the Vancouver area who have an interest in the wind industry will attend conference activities. • Track 3: Business of Wind sessions will focus on what it takes to make individual wind projects work. Exhibition Hall CanWEA has made some changes this year to the trade show schedule. As in the past, the trade show opening reception will start activities on Sunday from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Trade show hours. Morning trade show hours have been changed—the Exhibit Hall will open at 9:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday and close at 6:00 p.m. The Exhibit Hall will close at the end of the conference at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Early lunch for exhibitors. Another change for exhibitors is that lunch will be available to all exhibitors during the hour preceeding the delegates’ lunch. Robert Hornung, CanWEA president and Joyce McLean, chair, CanWEA Board of Directors opened proceedings for the 23rd Annual Conference and Trade Show Small Wind Pre-Conference Wind Pre-Conference e-Confer The conference will begin on Sunday, Oct. 19 with a Small Wind PreConference from 1:00-5:00 p.m. During the pre-conference workshop, CanWEA will introduce its first Guide to Small Wind Installations. The guide will then be available at www.canwea.ca following the conference. The small wind seminar requires a separate registration. 8 lenary Plenary Sessions The conference will feature plenary sessions Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Oct 20-22. The plenary 1 session on Monday at 10:30 a.m.—following the conference morning ceremonies—will address Shaping Wind’s Future: An Industry Leaders’ Forum. The plenary 2 sessions on Tuesday at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. respectively, will cover: Government Perspectives on Wind Energy: A Ministers’ Forum and Wind on the Grid: A Utility Leaders’ Forum. The final plenary session, on Wednesday morning at 8:30 will be Wind in Society: A Stakeholders’ Forum. echnical Sessions T Technical sessions for the two-and-ahalf-day conference have been grouped into three instructional series: • Track 1: Growing Wind in Canada, will focus on Canadian wind industry development as a whole. These sessions will address the key issues that will affect wind industry growth in the next ten years. • Track 2: Trends in Wind Energy Research & Development will focus on leading-edge wind research and development initiatives within both academia and industry. CanWEA’s booth at the 23rd Annual Conference and Trade Show in 2007 Open to the public.
