As a regional entity, WECC works closely with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) to develop and enforce standards for the reliable operation of the system. WECC’s mission is to assure a reliable bulk electric power system in the Western Interconnection. Region. The WECC footprint includes all or part of 14 states—Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming—two Canadian provinces, Alberta and British Columbia, and a fraction of Baja California in Mexico. This makes WECC the only regional entity operating in three countries.
