Starting on page 18, you’ll find details from the American Wind Energy Association’s Annual Report about utilities that carry wind power on their systems. Interviews with Michael Goggin, electric industry analyst, AWEA (p. 32), and NERC Reliability Assessments Manager Mark Lauby (p. 36), provide insights about policies impacting transmission decisions in the United States. Continuing on to page 43, you’ll find several articles regarding plans in the works to build new transmission systems that can accommodate increased wind energy generation. Page 51 begins a series of articles based on Grid Interconnection presentations given during AWEA’s WINDPOWER 2008 Conference & Exhibition. CanWEA Conference and Trade Show. Speaking of conferences, the Canadian Wind Energy Association celebrated its 24th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Vancouver, BC, Oct. 19-22. More than 2,000 delegates and 200 exhibitors participated. During CanWEA’s conference, Robert Hornung, association president, introduced WindVision 2025, a groundbreaking document for the association and the wind industry in Canada. See page 38 for a summary. Change at AWEA. Last summer, Randall Swisher anounced his plans to retire after serving AWEA for 19 years. Denise Bode will succeed Swisher as AWEA’s chief executive officer. Bode will begin her work as CEO on January 5, 2009. Thank you, Randy. Welcome, Denise.
