Wind Today - Q4 2008 - (Page 76) Industry Focus T urn Energy Maintenance, LLC In 2007, Turn Energy Maintenance started providing O&M services to the North American wind industry. After learning about the wind energy industry through a customer at his Austin, TX-based environmental contracting business, President Russ Carr decided to create a wind turbine O&M contract service company. “I figured this might be a great opportunity to expand our business,” Carr says. Industry Wind Industry According to Carr, the company works with manufacturers, developers, owners, operators, and other thirdparty O&M providers. “We provide commissioning, maintenance, retrofit, and safety services,” Carr says. “The industry is facing a current shortage of technicians and O&M providers, so it’s vital that companies like ours succeed in continuing to provide these services to the wind industry.” Carr attributes this technician O&M Contract Service shortage to a projected 30-45% annual growth in the wind industry. As a long-term goal, Carr says he hopes to expand his company’s O&M service contracts in the industry. “The majority of U.S.-based turbines are under manufacturer warranty and service contracts,” says Carr. “Each of these warranties and contracts will eventually expire.” “The industry needs to have a viable long-term pool of third party O&M service provider options to handle these expiring contracts,” he adds. Carr maintains that without thirdparty options, the longevity and productivity of the industry’s wind turbines will be put at serious risk. “We have found that most existing third party O&M providers service only large wind projects,” says Carr. “However, we can service both small and large wind projects.” PO Box 26943 Austin, TX 78755 512-457-0374 FAX: 512-323-9295 www.tem-llc.com rcarr@tem-llc.com T urn Energy Maintenance, LLC Services: Commissioning • Commissioning new wind turbines to full operation, electrical-hydraulicmechanical system and component troubleshooting, decommissioning Gear Box and Generator • Removal assistance, post-repair installation assistance, and alignment services Maintenance • Routine preventative maintenance services, fastener torque and tension, component inspections, retrofit services Repair • Electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic component and system repairs Wind T urbine Cleaning • Internal and external tower and nacelle cleaning services Blade • Inspection, removal and installation assistance Safety • Field safety coordinators and program development assistance 76 http://www.tem-llc.com http://www.tem-llc.com
