Events Discovery Green Concert to Feature Lyle Lovett Special Events During WINDPOWER 2008 Informational sessions and exhibits, as well as opening and general sessions with great keynote speakers, are the headline elements at AWEA’s WINDPOWER 2008 Conference and Exhibition, June 1-4 in Houston. Lori Rugh, AWEA’s strategic development and sales manager, says special events allow attendees great opportunities to interact with the more than 8,000 wind energy professionals expected at the conference. Pre-Conference e-Confer Pre-Conference Seminars Seminars this year include a return of Wind Energy 101: Fundamentals of Wind Energy for those new to the wind industry, and Wind Energy 201: What Makes the Development Process Successful. Wind Energy Forecasting 101 and Safety Within the Wind Industry will also be presented. Pre-conference seminars are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1. Also on Sunday, the first-time attendees orientation will take place from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. Receptions During the poster reception, on Sunday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., attendees can review wind research poster displays and interact with their authors. At 6:00 Sunday evening, the trade show begins with an opening reception in the exhibit hall featuring 700 exhibiting companies. Exhibit Hall Happy Hour, on Monday from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., provides a third reception opportunity to interact with colleagues. Finally, from 4:30 to 5:00 Wednesday afternoon, attendees can enjoy Closing Cocktails in the exhibit hall. Concert at Discovery Green Discovery Green A new event this year is a concert following Sunday’s opening reception. The Concert at Discovery Green will feature singer/songwriter Lyle Lovett. A ticket to the concert is included in full conference registrations and exhibitor booth personnel passes. Others who wish to attend the concert may purchase a ticket during registration. Confer erence Conference Dinner The conference dinner, featuring keynote speaker MSNBC morning talk-show host Joe Scarborough, will take place in the Ballroom of the Americas in the Hilton Americas Hotel.
