DIRECTIONS Dawn Brehm New Year, New Opportunities My sincere hope is that you make 2016 the year you engage even more with LTEN. W here does a year go? It's hard for me to believe that 2015 is just about over and my first year as the executive director of LTEN is coming to a close. Looking back, 2015 has been a busy and productive year for LTEN. Reflecting on the many activities, I was especially pleased with the level of engagement, you, our LTEN membership, has had with your network. From the annual conference, the Medical Device & Diagnostics Trainers Summit, our webinars and our other live events, LTEN members came out in record numbers to share, learn and connect. Let's look at some of those engagement opportunities. In 2015, LTEN held local mixers with more than 400 training professionals in attendance, making networking a reality. Webinars grew as well, in both number of events and attendance in general. We also saw the biggest attendance in years for the 44th LTEN Annual Conference last summer. More than half of our membership attended and enthusiastically participated in the event, which was highlighted by impressive use of the conference app to share knowledge, photos and fun. e Medical Device & Diagnostics Trainers Summit continued to innovate under the watchful eye of LTEN Board member and conference chair Greg Adamson. Attendees were treated to two days of dialogue on current topics, the new "LTEN Talks," featured speakers and open and honest panel discussions. e success of 2015 certainly wasn't limited to events. In 2015, LTEN held the inaugural LTEN Excellence Awards, recognizing more than 30 member organizations for their contributions to training and education. We also pro- duced the first-ever digital issue of Focus magazine to support the awards and to share the many educational initiatives of the winners. But enough of the past ... it's time to move onward! What's in store for 2016? To start with, LTEN will usher in 2016 with a new president. We must say goodbye to "LTEN John" - otherwise known as John Sjovall - as our president. Working with John these past two years has been a real treat. During John's tenure, he stewarded our successful transformation to LTEN, which was no small task, and he added a nice sense of fun and personality to his conference appearances. I'm equally excited though to start work with our incoming president, Mary Myers, director of training and development at Bayer HealthCare. Mary is well-qualified to lead the LTEN network, as service comes naturally to Mary aer beginning her career in service to our country in the U.S. Army. Mary also brings a breadth of experience and leadership to our organization in many aspects of life sciences. She has led field teams and training teams, at both large and small companies. Her vast experiences of working with a plethora of therapeutic modalities, her supreme leadership skills and her keen eye for the future of training will serve LTEN well. I invite you to reach out to Mary and share your congratulations and thoughts on how your network can better serve you. As I turn the final page on my 2015 calendar, I am excited to see 2016 around the corner. My sincere hope is that you make 2016 the year you engage even more with LTEN. We are a member organization, so your participation, ideas and contributions are essential to the viability of LTEN. ■ Dawn Brehm is executive director of LTEN. Email Dawn at dbrehm@L-TEN.org.
