DIRECTIONS Dawn Brehm Celebrating 45 Years of Enthusiasm The element I'm most enthused about? You. E nthusiasm is a large part of life sciences. As trainers, we need to set a certain energy level to help ensure our messages are received and retained. e sales professionals we train, in turn, bring that transfer of enthusiasm to their healthcare professionals, who offer it as hope and optimism to their patients. While enthusiasm for their work and the organizational goals is always valuable to life sciences trainers, that attitude comes into play for LTEN members especially now, with the 45th LTEN Annual Conference taking place this month. At this year's event, we'll enthusiastically celebrate 45 years of supporting life sciences training professionals. We've seen that enthusiasm building nicely, with this year's conference producing an energy and buzz that leaves all of us excited and enthused. It's always great to host this largest gathering of life sciences training professionals, but this year we're hitting new heights. For instance, there's the second annual LTEN Excellence Awards, to be handed out at the conference. LTEN members submitted a record number of award applications, which highlights the great work you do, and all applicants deserve to be recognized. en there's the conference content itself. LTEN members submitted more workshop proposals for the conference than ever before. While that made workshop selection more difficult than normal, the outcome is a strong agenda with a variety of relevant topics. e conference keynote sessions are certain to enthusiastically deliver you ideas, energy and tools for your job and your career. CNN correspondent and author Mel Robbins will be opening our conference, with the energy that has led her TEDTalks to be viewed by more than five million people. We also have a bit of a "different drummer" this year with Sewa Beats delivering high-impact, interactive learning that combines the elemental language of music and rhythm with 21st century training techniques. We'll wrap our keynotes with former NBA player Walter Bond motivating you toward peak performance. at's a fitting way to bring us to the most important element I'm enthused about: You. is year, LTEN members have registered for the conference in strong numbers, adding in the real secret sauce for a great event - your energy and participation. In addition to the educational and inspirational elements, the annual conference offers many opportunities to connect the LTEN community. We'll deliver the chance to network, to meet new members, to connect with old friends and, most importantly, to learn from the assembled experience of LTEN. I'm confident you'll feel the energy as we offer one more special innovation: For the first time, the annual conference will feature a track for trainers in the noncommercial realm of R&D, manufacturing and clinical development, collectively referred to as GxP. Do you have colleagues who have not attended our conference because they believe the content is only for commercial training? Invite your peers to attend and participate in the new track, which will move LTEN toward being a hub for all life sciences trainers and educators. We look forward to seeing you at the 45th LTEN Annual Conference this year. Make sure you visit the LTEN booth, where you'll have the chance to meet LTEN officers and staff members. I look forward to greeting you personally and sharing in your enthusiasm. ■ Dawn Brehm is executive director of LTEN. Email Dawn at dbrehm@L-TEN.org.
