MEMBERSOFTHEYEAR Recognizing the LTEN Members of the Year ■ By Tim Sosbe T he 2nd Annual LTEN Excellence Awards featured a few new categories this year, perhaps most importantly the two categories recognizing Members of the Year in both the practitioner and provider sides of life sciences training. ese special awards are designed to honor individual members who've gone above and beyond to contribute to LTEN. e five individuals earning the top honors this year have each in their own way raised the bar by selflessly giving back to LTEN for the good of all members and the wider industry we all serve. 6 Vicki Colman BAYER HEALTHCARE Member of the Year Practitioner Vicki Colman has been an active member of LTEN for more than 13 years, and serves on the LTEN Advisory Council, a group that helps operationalize missions from the LTEN Board of Directors. As the associate director, sales training, for Bayer HealthCare, Colman has significant experience in life sciences sales training, and she has brought this expertise to her work with LTEN. In addition to serving on the Advisory Council, Colman also serves LTEN on the Marketing Committee and the LTEN Research Panel. She has also contributed articles for Focus magazine, shared tips through the Gotta Tell You column for Bonus Focus, shares both questions and answers through the LTEN Chat Board, reviews potential workshops for LTEN conferences, led sessions at the annual conference and provides input on surveys, prospective members and program marketing. It's that commitment to helping others that earned Colman one of the inaugural honors in this new category. "I've had many great mentors, including Sue Iannone, who recruited me in from the field and continues to motivate me, and Mary Myers, who encourages me to participate and share my experiences," Colman said. "I encourage all members, new and tenured, to raise your hands and volunteer. Share the word about LTEN with internal and industry training colleagues. Network and be involved." Glen Drummond DEPOMED Member of the Year Practitioner Glen Drummond, senior director of commercial learning and development for Depomed, has been an active member of LTEN since 2007, but this past year has really been a banner. In the past year, he has joined the LTEN Research Panel, was selected for the LTEN Editorial Advisory Board, served as guest editor for Focus magazine, helped judge the annual LTEN Excellence Awards (not this particular category, of course), presented a workshop at the annual conference and was a speaker on an LTEN member benefits webinar. Drummond, in short, has contributed frequently to LTEN, always helping out when asked and frequently volunteering and sharing ideas that make LTEN stronger for all members. Despite all that, he was surprised and pleased to hear he'd been selected as a Member of the Year.
