identify and combine a set of
microlearning topics to create a new
course, typically without needing a
training professional, medical writer,
graphic artist or outside supplier for
the services. Smaller and medium
companies, which may not have
budgets for high-science and
customized learning, can particularly
benefit.
"Microlearning is a major trend in
the learning community, and provides
bite-sized, self-contained topics ondemand to match individual's busy
schedules, the need for quick answers
and aligns with the way we learn," said
Michelle Youngers, the recently retired
president of ScienceMedia. "However,

the cost to develop new content for
Microlearning, especially in a
regulated environment, has prevented
any commercial offerings in the life
sciences and in most of the learning
industry - until SMi."

Scrimmage
With its client looking to
consolidate its global learning
repositories for 2,000 sales personally
in the United States and Europe,
Scrimmage had a three-month period
to innovate and integrate everything
into one learning platform accessible
from any mobile device. e new
learning center also needed to include
full reporting and analytics to
showcase each salesperson's learning
journey.
With managing and administering
different systems proving challenging,
the client company's training and IT
teams worked with Scrimmage to

fulfill a wish list for its learners to be
able to access all content, curriculums,
activities and assets through
Scrimmage's mobile learning
platform.
"From the outset, there were
challenges to this project. Again, it
was practically unheard of to integrate
so many systems and applications of
various ages (some quite outdated and
antiquated, but still utilized) onto one
mobile learning platform," said Sharon
Steeley, director of marketing and
communications for Scrimmage. "In
the long-term, this mobile solution is
expected to facilitate and improve the
sales cycle, which is core to the
business. Onboarding, training and
coaching will be stronger, along with
robust reporting to generate content
and learner adjustments in a timelier
manner." ■

the business need to develop
meaningful and effective training in
the U.S. that can be used globally," said
Carolyn Kopchains, account manager
with Red Nucleus. "During recent
discussions with Biogen Global, we
have heard that Europe and Canada
consider the program to be effective
training as is. Without the need for
translation in those regions, they may
be able to deploy this training without
modifications. is may provide a cost
savings of well over $750,000."

Yukon Training
Partnering with a pharmaceutical
company client, Yukon Training

created customized training for 550
sales professionals at a national sales
meeting, consisting of live training,
post-meeting online modules and
weekly learning reinforcement. e
training included a focus on managed
care, how the company's product fit
into cost-containment strategies and
how sales representatives could
effectively position the product's
formulary status.
Yukon met with leadership, sales
training and marketing to identify the
need, lay out findings and come up
with sustainable solutions for the
training, with a goal of creating new
knowledge, not a simple "one and

done" session. e training was rolled
out over four live training events,
targeting senior leaders, marketers,
field leaders and field sales
professionals.
"Several of the company's internal
employees were new to their roles, so
Yukon Training also took on an
'advisory' role to assist with some of
the standard situations that companies
face when rolling out large-scale
training," said Dennis Falci, president
of Yukon Training. "is training will
not only impact the company's current
product, but also will impact the
launch of their new disease state
product for years to come." ■
