The latest gambit to draw patrons to the Las Vegas Strip will be housed in the
Luxor hotel/casino, where a now-closed nightclub will be reborn as the first
permanent electronic sports (esports) venue on the famed gaming mecca. The
project is a joint venture by China-based Allied Esports Intl.; its North American unit, Esports Arena; and Luxor operator MGM Resorts Intl.
Esports Arena is working with locally based YWS Design & Architecture
and the hotel's in-house team to transform the space-which previously
housed the 30,000-sq.-ft. LAX nightclub-into a multi-level arena. Slated to
debut early next year, the venue will feature a competition stage, LED video
wall, telescopic seating, gaming stations, F&B offerings, and streaming and
TV-quality production studios.
The venue will involve design and programming contributions from Allied's
international operations. Project participants say naming rights for the Las
Vegas outpost are also being considered.
"We have very ambitious expansion plans over the next two years," says Jud
Hannigan, ceo of Allied Esports. "When we realized that a location at Luxor was
possible, we jumped at the opportunity to develop our flagship here. Just as
Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden and Wembley Stadium are considered
their sports' most aspirational venues by players and fans alike, Esports Arena Las
Vegas will be the iconic destination in esports and complement the city's incredible appeal, attracting video gaming competitors and fans from around the world."
The Esports Arena brand launched in Santa Ana, California, in 2015. Last
year, the business unveiled plans for its second outpost in California, Esports
Arena Oakland, which is scheduled to open later this year. The company also
says it's planning to announce 10 to 15 locales for the brand in North America
over the next few years.
