Boutique Design magazine took home first-, second- and third-place awards
in the Press Club of Cleveland's 2017 All Ohio Excellence in Journalism
competition. Honors won by the Cincinnati-based magazine are:
* First place, headline writing: BD editor Matthew Hall, for "Starck Raving
Cool," which introduced a September 2016 feature on Philippe Starck's design
of the inaugural M Social hotel. "In a tough competition, this headline
expressed the perfect emotion for the story," the judges said of the entry.
* Second place, headline writing: BD executive editor Mary Scoviak, for
"Sibling Revelry," for an October 2016 feature on two Room Mate hotels that
debuted in the same city at the same time.
* Third place, Best Trade Publication in Ohio, for BD's November 2016
edition (the magazine's at-show issue for its annual Boutique Design New
York (BDNY) show). "Beautifully designed magazine with a strong idea-book
feel. Text provided a good overview of industry and design trends," the judges
said of the entry.
