Boutique Design - May 2018 - 25
Today's biggest hotel
happen in 3D. Here's
a how-to, courtesy of
projects from China
to the UK.
BY oriana lerner
pieces fall flat in 2018. Hospitality
design is getting physical. Guests
want to feel as well as see the wow
moments, whether that's the natural
texture of wood pieces on a guest
room wall, the imposing scale of a
sculptural dragon made of metal
cymbals or two dozen mixed-media
mouse figures in a bar. These three
hotels' approach to art begs to be
interacted with (sorry, iPhone, those
push notifications will have to wait).
This is what you need to know now
when it comes to crafting a pièce de
resistance for public spaces and guest
rooms today, tomorrow and beyond.
1 Circular shapes make
Hotel's lobby an interactive
hub. A rich mix of rough
textures grounds the look.
