To the average client or consumer, white ink might not seem like such a breakthrough in digital print technology. To print service providers, however, the ability to add white into the ink mix had made quite the difference in what can and cannot be done when it comes to purely digital print work. The five print service providers that follow have been cultivating demand for printing with white, executing a range of creative options this seemingly simple capability allows. On window films, colored vinyls, and a range of substrates, white ink has provided them with a foundation for new service opportunities and ignited new revenue streams – digitally printing color where it just wasn’t possible before.
Unicorn Graphics: Finding a new level
Unicorn Graphics (unicorngraphics. com) in Garden City, New York, is a full-line supplier of offset and digital print services. On the digital side, it’s doing its part to spread the word on the advantages of printing with white ink: A recent issue of its newsletter features an article explaining to its customers why printing with white ink is such a breakthrough: “The paper and substrates market has had a recent explosion of new products that are clear, metallic, or

perceived as a provider of innovative digital solutions with a distinct look, Unicorn Graphics “offers something not too many shops can produce,” says robert lee. “Not having the capability to print with white inks would not have brought us to the level we are at right now,” he says. For client Shake-N-Go’s tradeshow booth at the 2011 Beauty Expo in las Vegas, Unicorn used its EFi Vutek QS2000 with white ink to output graphics onto 6-mm plaskolite Optix Da Digital acrylic Clear.
