ISA SURVEY EXPLORES WIDE-FORMAT GROWTH
ISA released a white paper, "Looking for Big Opportunity in
Graphic Communications and Specialty Printing," based on
results from a survey conducted by Keypoint Intelligence -
InfoTrends. More than 300 print service providers participated in the survey, which explored PSPs' wide-format investment plans, business priorities, workflow challenges, media/
substrate usage, and application growth. The study offered
these takeaways:

MEDIA TRENDS

* For survey respondents, 76 percent of their wide-format
output was produced on flexible media and 24 percent was
on rigid media.
WORKFLOW REMAINS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH.

SIGNAGE AND DISPLAY GRAPHICS IS A GROWTH MARKET.

* Almost 70 percent of respondents said their wideformat print volume is increasing.
* Respondents expect 31 percent annual growth in wide
format.
* The driving factors for PSPs who are investing in wide
format include expanding business, customer demands for new
products, upgrading/replacing equipment, and adding capacity.

* Color management software is the most widely owned
solution among print service providers surveyed, with nearly
50 percent of PSPs reporting its use.
* Workflow management software, which automates
production, was used by only 23 percent of respondents.
* Twenty-four percent of PSPs surveyed reported using
print management information systems (MIS), which serves
as a single system of record to store and share information
within the print shop and to the client.

THERE'S INCREASING DEMAND FOR SHORT TURNAROUND.

* More than 78 percent of respondents said their
wide-format projects are produced within 24 hours.
* Respondents expect that demand to increase over time.
TOP APPLICATIONS BY TECHNOLOGY

* Banners, vehicle graphics, signs, and wallpaper/
interiors were reported as the most profitable applications,

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GROWTH

* Consider adding or expanding offerings and entering
new market segments.
* Be strategic: Build on current capabilities and customers to develop new applications and consider implementing
target marketing.
* Optimize production with automation.
