Review: EuroShop 2011
Anyone looking for confirmation of a recovery in the retail industry may look to the success of EuroShop 2011 as a favorable sign. The triennial event, held in Dusseldorf, Germany, was the largest ever, welcoming more than 2000 exhibitors and 106,000 visitors (compared to 104,766 in 2008). Always among the inspiring elements at EuroShop are the booths. And 2011 didn’t disappoint. Hans Boodt (Zwijndrecht, Netherlands) drew attention with a trio of old men mannequins to greet patrons. Zumtobel (Dorbirn, Austria) added more than new lighting technologies to this year’s event with live piano performances on an illuminated stage inside its booth. Italian-based display maker Avenue+Servizi’s mechanical eyewear display drew applause and smiles. Alu (Vicenza, Italy) partnered with students from JAK Akademie for Fashion Design (Hamburg, Germany), who created 10 different window displays using Alu merchandising systems inside the booth according to each day’s theme. In addition to the visual stimulation, visitors saw

the greenest EuroShop ever – from energy-saving refrigeration cabinets to sustainable fixturing materials. Visplay (Weil am Rehin, Germany) introduced its Choices modular system made of composite from renewable raw materials. The new “MQ-City” area housed a stunning presentation of the latest mannequins, including bold colors on display at ABC Mannequins (Brugherio, Italy) and Goldsmith’s (New York) new 7-foot tall Collection 60. Bonami (Aalter, Belgium), CNL (Buena Park, Calif.) and GenesisDisplay (Auetal, Germany) all featured new, textured finishes. Technology is another product area that continues to see developments. Grottini Retail Environments (Porto Recanati, Italy) presented In-Show, a dynamic window technology that includes product images along with integrated QR code, wish-list and sharing functions.
