flooring
Step Lively
From the look and feel of distressed wood (real or faux) to marble mosaics, flooring has become an integral part of design, which can either be the first thing a shopper notices or a subdued background that makes merchandise pop. More than ever, these patterns and textures are customizable to their environments. Some even allow for objects – like old records or photos – to be encapsulated into thick resin. Improved technology has allowed vinyl tiles to look and feel almost as realistic as the concrete and stones they mimic, while providing extra durability. The best news? Most materials are now made with high amounts of recyclable content. —Whitney Harrod
