AACN Dare To “Everyone should dare to be a mermaid!” exclaims American Journal of Critical Care nurse coeditor Cindy Munro. When the 2012 National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition ended in Orlando last May, Munro and some of her colleagues dared to participate in Sirens of the Deep Mermaid Camp at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, Spring Hill, Fla. Mermaid campers experience what it’s like to be an underwater performer, including underwater ballet training sessions and a live performance. “It was really fun, but really strenuous,” Munro cautions. Medical School Endows Chair of Nursing Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, has established the first endowed chair of nursing in the institution’s 160-year history and appointed Carol Porter, The Mount Sinai Hospital’s chief nursing and senior vice president for nursing, as the inaugural chair holder. Establishment of the chair — named in honor of Edgar M. Cullman Sr., a longtime supporter of the medical school and of nursing — is unusual, because schools of medicine typically do not have an endowed chair of nursing. Susan R. Cullman, a longtime member of the Mount Sinai boards of trustees, announced the endowment in honor of her father.
