Contemporary Sexuality - June 2008 - (Page 2) From the Executive Director his is the first digitized issue of Contemporary Sexuality! Although you are receiving a paper copy of the June issue, we are also publishing a digital version. The new and improved version will be unveiled in New Orleans, but you can view the digital version at a link on the AASECT website (www. aasect.org) and you can see the searchable features. Each month, the issues will be archived and we hope members will choose the green electronic version to save on materials and printing and mailing costs. You can always print a copy and still save funds for your membership guild association. To “Go Green,” send a note to TMoore@aasect.org and request the electronic version of Contemporary Sexuality. • 2008 conference: By the time you get this issue, we hope you are packing for New Orleans and The Rhythm of Our Roots: 40 Years of Sexuality Education and Health Celebrated Through Song, Story and Science. See you there. • Executive Director’s Trip to Taiwan: I was please to accept the invitation of the Taiwan Association for Sexuality Education to keynote their recent conference in Taipei. We are eagerly assisting them in establishing a certification program modeled on the AASECT system. In addition, I enjoyed visiting Shu-Te University in Kaohsiung where I spoke to the graduate students in human sexuality about Trends in USA Adolescent Sexual Behavior 1991-2005. Here’s a special thanks to Helene Lin, long-time AASECT member, for helping make the trip a success. • Peggy Kleinplatz, PhD, Certification Steering Chair, has recently announced the newly approved AASECT Practice Guidelines for Certified Professionals. They are now posted on the AASECT website as part of the application forms for each of the five categories of certifications. (See story on page 8.) The announcement of these guidelines comes after two years of efforts by a rather large committee chaired by Hani Miletski, PhD, under the auspices of the Certification Committee and in conjunction with each of the certification chairs and Russell Stambaugh, PhD, Bylaws and Policies and Procedures expert extraordinaire. I am greatly indebted to each of them for their endeavors to articulate publicly the high standards AASECT has long expected from its certified professionals. continued on page 8 T sexuality AASECT Executive Director Founder AASECT Board of Directors President President Elect Secretary Treasurer Membership Steering Chair Certification Steering Chair Outreach Steering Chair Professional Education Steering Committee Chair Public Relations, Media & Advocacy Steering Committee Communications Steering Chair Stephen Conley, PhD Patricia Schiller, MA, JD Patti Britton, PhD Helen “Ginger” Bush, MSW Lloyd Sinclair, MSSW Russell Stambaugh, PhD Hani Miletski, MSW, PhD Peggy Kleinplatz, PhD P.
