Contemporary Sexuality - June 2008 - (Page 8) New AASECT practice guidelines Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to inform you that the Board of Directors unanimously approved the AASECT Practice Guidelines for AASECT Certified Professionals. They have been posted to the AASECT website as part of the application forms for each of the five categories of Certifications or renewal as follows: http://aasect.org/PDFs/Educator_Application_ Revised_March_07.pdf http://aasect.org/PDFs/Sexuality_Counselor_ Application_%20New_Regulations_revApr08. pdf http://aasect.org/PDFs/Sex_Therapist_Original_ Certification_revMay08.pdf http://aasect.org/PDFs/DIPLOMATE_ APPLICATION_Spring08.pdf http://aasect.org/PDFs/What%20is%20 Expected%20of%20AASECT%20Certified %20Supervisors.pdf The announcement of these guidelines comes after two years of efforts by a rather large committee chaired by Hani Miletski, PhD, under the auspices of Certifications and in conjunction with each of the Certification Chairs and Russell Stambaugh, PhD, Bylaws and Policies and Procedures expert extraordinaire. I am greatly indebted to each of them for their endeavors to articulate publicly the high standards AASECT has long expected from its certified professionals. The presence of these documents on the website will allow consumers to identify the minimum standards they are entitled to anticipate from AASECT certified professionals. From now on, applicants for certification and/or renewal will need to send a signed copy of the relevant practice guidelines (e.g., practice guidelines for sexuality educators) back to AASECT with their applications. Please do not hesitate to contact me at (613) 563-0846 should you have any questions or comments about this endeavor. Sincerely, Peggy J.
