Contemporary Sexuality - August 2008 - (Page 12) AASECT membership survey results About 20 percent of AASECT members responded to a recent membership survey. The full results of the survey can be found on the AASECT website, in the “members only” section. The following are some of the highlights: • Nearly 70 percent of respondents earned $50,000 or more annually. Of the 39 respondents who reported “less than $25,000” in income, approximately 75 percent were either students between the ages of 20-29, or members between the ages 60-85. • Most of the participants in the survey indicated they wanted to “go green” in regards to Contemporary Sexuality, membership dues, certification renewal and membership directory. • About 47 percent wanted to change the organization’s name to the International Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. About 36 percent did not want to change AASECT’s name. • About 40 percent were interested in purchasing health insurance through AASECT, and 47 percent were interested in buying professional liability insurance through AASECT. • The respondents listed the most valuable aspects of AASECT membership in the following order: (1) certification and a sense of professionalism, (2) connection to professional, up-to-date information, (3) networking, (4) educational opportunities, (5) attending the annual conference, (6) internet resources (listserv and website referrals), and (7) subscription to Contemporary Sexuality. • About 50 percent of the participants related that AASECT can improve its membership services by sponsoring more regional educational and training events, having a better functioning website, lowering fees for students and having a less rigorous certification process. — Hani Miletski Chair, Membership Services Steering Committee. american association of sexuality educators, counselors and therapists P.O.
