Contemporary Sexuality - January 2009 - (Page 2) From the Executive Director ur hearts go out to our members in India after the recent violence in Mumbai. We hope all those in the greater AASECT world and their families are safe and recovering from this tragedy. Our Commonwealth of Virginia lost two visitors to the great nation of India during the rampage, a father and daughter from the Charlottesville area. We suffer with our Indian brothers and sisters. • We also extend our sympathies this month for two other recent losses. Through the AASECT listserv and in our last issue, we asked many of you to contact our ailing friend and mentor, Sol Gordon. Sadly, Sol died on December 1. A suitable memorial tribute to this grand and innovative sexuality educator is being planned with guidance from his surviving partner, Marlene Appley. Should you wish to write her, the address is 9 Charrington Place, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, 27514. • Our friend, Suzanne Frayser, immediate past president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality recently lost her husband Steve Varlese. Many members met Suzanne in New Orleans. Steve died suddenly and unexpectedly at their home in Hawaii after Thanksgiving. Needless to say, all are stunned and saddened with his loss at the age of 55. It’s less than a year since Steve and Suzanne moved from Colorado for his “dream job” in Hawaii and they found the “perfect house” and they were exceedingly happy in their island paradise. Suzanne has much support from Steve’s work community, but since they are new to Hawaii, she will need a great deal of support. Suzanne expects to remain in Hawaii and re-build her life. I hope many of you will reach out to her. Suzanne Frayser, PhD, 200 Kanoelehua Ave., #444, Hilo, HI 96720, (808) 315-7639, sfrayser@earthlink.net • Clinical insert articles needed: You may have noticed the absence of clinical CE articles in Contemporary Sexuality recently. We need contributions from our members to fill this void. Many members take advantage of this unique method of continuing education and professional growth. If you have a topic of interest, please contact Annette Owens, Contemporary Sexuality Editor-in-Chief, at info@cvillewell ness.com. We need your written contributions for publication in your association’s newsletter. • While it is too late for proposals for Phoenix 2009, there remains time to help your membership guild association to find exhibitors and sponsors for our 41st anniversary conference. Contact Tammy Bednar, Exhibits Chair, for more information at exhibitors2009@gmail.com or visit the AASECT website for the Call for Exhibitors. • Contemporary Sexuality is seeking a new editor-inchief to begin in July.
