The award states that it is “In honor of Cassell’s contribution in promoting science-based approaches to adolescent pregnancy, parenting, and prevention.” Congratulations to Robie H. Harris (Belmont, Mass.) on the anniversaries of her Family Library books. It’s So Amazing! and It’s Perfectly Normal will be celebrating their 10th and 15th anniversaries respectively in 2009. It’s Not the Stork!, which is for a younger audience, was published in 2005 and was featured in the New York Times. Find out more information about Harris at her website (www.robieharris. com). We would like to bid a huge welcome to our 19 newest and returning members: Stanley Althof (West Palm Beach, Fla.), Joseph Crawford (Vero Beach, Fla.), Anna David (New York, N.Y.), John Jamieson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Valerie Ward (Vero Beach, Fla.), Ginger Holczer (Springfield, Mo.), Kimberly Resnick Anderson (Akron, Ohio), William Hulley (Boulder, Colo), Mark Shattuck (San Francisco, Calif.), Ed Tomlinson (Arvada, Colo.), Gretchen Blycker (Jamestown, R.I.), Elizabeth Burzler (Harwinton, Conn.), Tenille Richardson (Blacksburg, Va.), Callie Winslow (Philadelphia, Pa.), Michelle Zuccarini (Wind Gap, Pa.), Alicia Jones (Kansas City, Mo.), Stephanie Herbert (Pebble Beach, Calif.), Dawn Stanley (Carlsbad, Calif.), and Catherine Toyooka (Sunnyvale, Calif.). We end on two very sad notes — Steve Varlese, the husband of member Suzanne Frayser (Hilo, Hawaii), died unexpectedly at their home in November. He was 55 years old. Sol Gordon (Chapel Hill, N.C.), 85, one of the greatest leaders in sexuality education and parent-child communication about sexuality issues, died in December. He was featured in the August issue of Contemporary Sexuality. He will be greatly missed. News of Members is a regular column in this publication. AASECT Certification Dear Colleagues, This is just a reminder that all individuals who plan to apply to become AASECT-certified sex therapists must have a contract between themselves and their supervisors from the outset. This provisional contract must be sent to the AASECT office for approval before the process of supervision can begin. As indicated on our website, the only persons authorized to provide supervision are certified by AASECT. Ideally, one would seek out an AASECT-certified sex therapy supervisor, in which case, contracts are strongly recommended. However, if one is unable to locate an available AASECT-certified sex therapy supervisor nearby, AASECT will consider granting exceptions and sometimes allow supervision by AASECT-certified sex therapists who have been certified for at least three years, provided we receive a supervision contract in advance. These contracts are mandatory with no exceptions. Please do not begin supervision until the head office sends back notice that the arrangement is acceptable. If you need further information, please refer to our website (aasect.org/therapist.asp) or feel free to call me at 613-563-0846. No email, please. Thank you. Sincerely, Peggy J.
