In addition to the superior advanced training opportunity, the participants were able to have lunch with our founder, Patricia Schiller. As president, it was my pleasure to greet the group on both evenings and to have the opportunity to talk about AASECT and to answer many questions, mostly related to certification. Local member Sally Valentine hosted a lovely party at her home offering more opportunities to network and dialogue. A s has been a recent tradition, the AASECT Board of Directors held its autumn meeting at the SSSS annual conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. AASECT, in collaboration with Asociación Puertoriqueña de Educación, Consejería y Terapia Sexual (AsPECT) of Puerto Rico, had a “meet and greet” Saturday evening in Old San Juan at the historic El Convento Hotel, which was formerly a convent. The local organizers of this collegial event were AASECT members Jose Pando and Edward Fankhanel, hosted by our sister organization, AsPECT. This event provided the opportunity for our Spanish-speaking hosts to discuss submitting abstracts in Spanish for the 2009 annual conference in Phoenix. In the late 1970s, AASECT had an active chapter in Puerto Rico that many remember fondly. The result of this lovely evening is that the 2009 annual conference will have a day of pre-conference workshops entirely in Spanish. This event provided the opportunity for our Spanish-speaking hosts to discuss submitting abstracts in Spanish for the 2009 annual conference in Phoenix. … The AASECT Winter Institute presenters Barry McCarthy and Sallie Foley relaxing before beginning the training result of this lovely evening is that the 2009 annual conference will have a day of preconference workshops entirely in Spanish. Many AASECT members have submitted abstracts and AASECT will present a symposium on the role of certification in the day-to-day life of the educator and therapist.
