Contemporary Sexuality - March 2009 - (Page 2) From the Executive Director s you read this note our 2009 conference in Phoenix/ Glendale, Arizona is in an intense preparation stage. Our great team has built one incredible list of presenters and special events. The opening plenary will feature Brett Kahr, PhD, the author of Who’s Been Sleeping in your Head?: The Secret World of Sexual Fantasies. Kahr is a senior clinical research fellow in psychotherapy and mental health at the Centre for Child Mental Health in London. He will open the conference and the Fantasy Night with his lecture “Erotic Tumours and Orgasmic Thrills: The Sinister Psychology of Sexual Fantasies.” • The 2009 registration form is now posted on the AASECT website. Please plan to register early for our next amazing AASECT conference. As noted above Don Dyson and Brent Satterly have created a great schedule of events and presenters for “Some Like It Hot: The Cutting Edge in Sex Education, Counseling, Therapy & Medicine!” You can now register online at www.aasect.org/annualcon.asp. • For the event in Arizona, we also recommend you make your reservations early at the Renaissance Spa and Hotel Glendale (at www.marriott.com) and join us May 13-17 in Phoenix/Glenmont, Arizona. • Please note that the hotel blocks for our conferences fill early each year and after that early bird deadline the hotels are free to charge their regular rate, considerably higher than our negotiated rate. Make your arrangements early and mention “AASECT.” If you have any difficulty, contact us at (804) 752-0026. • Many members are aware, but everyone should keep in mind that it hurts AASECT when our members decide to stay at hotels other than the chosen conference location. We gain a number of fiscal advantages when we meet our lodging “room night” goals with the hotel contract, including free meeting space for the conference and decreased costs for coffee breaks. • Exhibitors/Sponsors for our 41st anniversary conference are still needed. Help AASECT by contacting our Exhibits Chair with ideas of companies who might support the conference. The chair is Tammy Bednar and more information is available from her at exhibitors2009@gmail.com or you can visit AASECT’s website for the Call for Exhibitors. • Now is the time to begin planning to attend the 2009 AASECT Summer Institute in Richmond, Va. This bi-annual training is set for August 9-14 at the beautiful Roslyn Episcopal Retreat Center (www.roslyncenter.org). Watch for our advertisement next month in Contemporary Sexuality.
