Contemporary Sexuality - April 2009 - (Page 2) From the Executive Director here are some critical deadlines creeping up this month that you do not want to miss … • Don Dyson and Brent Satterly and their incredible Review Teams have put together one of the most exciting and broad-based AASECT conferences in years. This one has it all and has the promise of being “over the top.” You don’t want to miss this great event in the desert in Phoenix, Arizona! Register now for Some Like It Hot: The Cutting Edge in Sex Education, Couseling, Therapy and Medicine, scheduled for May 13–17. • Make your room reservations early for the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa. We chose the hotel for its beauty and size — it just fits our AASECT conferences and this year as with our best conferences, we will “own” the facility. This also means they have just enough sleeping rooms to accommodate our attendees. So make your reservations now. You can do this online at http://tiny.cc/X9oYT or call (623) 937-3700. Our conference early bird rate for rooms ends on April 11. • Conference registrations are already starting to arrive at the national AASECT office and we hope everyone registers early. Visit www.aasect.org before the early bird conference registration ends on April 15. • Please note that the hotel blocks for our conferences fill early each year and after that hotels are free to charge their regular rate, which is considerably higher than our negotiated conference lodging rate. Make your arrangements early and mention “AASECT” for the best deal. The Renaissance features a spa inside the meeting and lobby area and this gorgeous new facility is something to see. • The Charles Sperazza Group is sponsoring a free breakfast on Friday, May 15 at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa. The breakfast is open to the first 30 conference attendees who register. This session will feature advice on retirement and investment planning for self-employed professionals with suggestions on how to protect your career and portfolio in these turbulent times. Register early to assure a spot in this timely and free investment session. • Thanks to all our reviewers and conference planners for such quick and thorough work this year. We had many, many great proposals. If you submitted, but were not accepted, please try again next year. As we go to press, Clearwater Beach, Florida and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania are our two finalist cities for the 2010 AASECT conference. • Summer Institute: We are already receiving registrations for our 2009 Summer Institute for those seeking AASECT certification in any category. This year’s teaching team includes Brent Satterly, Don Dyson, Bill Finger, Kathleen Baldwin and others. It is not too early to begin planning to attend this event, which will be limited to the first 50 registrants. This bi-annual training is set for August 9-14 at the beautiful Roslyn Episcopal Retreat Center (www.roslyncenter.org/index.shtml). Watch for our advertisement soon in Contemporary Sexuality.
