Children's Bible Reader Demo - (Page 31) Abraham did as God commanded him. He took his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot and they left Haran. They took all their belongings with them, including their animals and their servants. The name of God’s promised land was Canaan, and the journey to get there took a very long time. When they finally arrived there, God said to Abraham, “I will give this land to you and your descendants.” Abraham then built an altar at the place where God spoke to him and thanked Him. Abraham was very rich. He had lots of silver and gold and many sheep and goats. His nephew Lot also had many sheep and goats. Soon there was not enough pasture land for all the animals. Sometimes Abraham’s shepherds argued with Lot’s shepherds about the pastures. Abraham said to Lot, “We are a family! We don’t need to argue, because the whole land is ours. We should divide everything. If you decide to go left I will go right, and if you decide to go right, I will go left.” Lot took a good look around. He saw the valley of the Jordan River, which had plenty of water and was very green. For this reason Lot decided to go there, while Abraham stayed in the land of Canaan. God said to Abraham, “Your descendants will be as many as the grains of sand on the beach.” But Abraham said, “I do not have any children and now I am old. When will Sarah and I have a child?” That night God said to Abraham, “Look at the sky and count the stars if you can. So shall your descendants be uncountable.” Abraham trusted God and believed what He told him. (Genesis 12-17) 31
