Here are five ways to get back into that suit and feel good about it. Snacking Between Meals is Good For you Contrary to what your mother told you, snacking between meals is a good thing to do. Just make sure your midmorning and midafternoon breaks are healthy. Focus on fruits and lean proteins (string cheese or raw almonds, for example). these healthy snacks will stave off extreme hunger at the next meal, the kind that typically leads to eating all the wrong kinds of foods. it’s all part of the five-small-meals-a-day theory: if you’ve had a little something to tide you over at 3 p.m., you won’t be ravenous at dinner, consuming everything in sight whether it’s good for you or not. you Booze, you Lose well, you lose out on weight-loss benefits if you drink; you don’t lose the weight itself, unfortunately. it’s easy to look past that nightly glass of wine you might sip to take the edge off, but those are calories that can really add up. Ditto on the afternoon chocolate attacks you might indulge in. Cut those out, and you’ll be well on your way downward on the scale. Get Moving there’s no other way around it: the sure-fire way to get into last year’s suit is to increase (or at least maintain) this year’s activity level. However you like to work out, just do it. make the extra effort to fit in that pre- or postoffice gym visit, or use your lunch hour to go to the gym or simply walk around the office parking lot. do the right Thing if you really want to kick it up a notch, target your trouble zones. running is good for all-over fitness, especially toning those soon-to-be-bare poolside legs. Pilates concentrates on your core, making you feel more fit in almost any suit—from a tummycovering one-piece to a midriff-baring bikini. You feel like spring just got here, and you’re still getting used to not being able to don a sweater or suit jacket to hide those extra winter pounds. now that swimsuit season is upon us—and we hate to break it to you, but it’s almost here—how do you make sure you’re bathing-suit-ready? Here are five tips to get you feeling poolsideperfect. whether your idea of that involves a coverup or a bikini, follow these tips, and you’ll be able to grab your beach bag and head into the sun with confidence. Water, Water, Everywhere while you’re thinking about how you’ll look getting into the H20, think about consuming some too. You may have already discovered that on your best dieting days, drinking enough water really does stave off the cravings that send you to the vending machines— and running for the hills when you see your swimsuit. so make sure you’re remembering to drink plenty of water. Don’t get hung up on the amount you drink. Just listen to your body. if you feel thirsty, your body needs more water. if you’re not thirsty, you’re fine. 26 w o m e n i n b us i n e s s A p r / M Ay 2 0 0 9
