how company culture impacts

millennials

Company culture has a big impact on attracting and
retaining millennials in the workplace. In fact, surveys show
that when people in this generation are looking for a new
job, one of the most important attributes is the culture of
their potential new employer. As a millennial myself, I can
attest to that. The question is: What kind of cultures are
millennial women looking for, and how can your business
fit into those desires? Here are a few things to think about
when it comes to Gen y at work.
PROVIDING A GOOD ENVIRONMENT
did you know that on average, millennials would
be willing to give up $7,600 in yearly salary in
return for a positive work environment? That
said, this generation tends to put time into
researching the potential company, its benefits
and track record prior to committing. Are there
on-site bonuses (e.g., interesting training programs,
fitness classes, etc.)? does that company engage in
corporate social responsibility?
COLLABORATION VERSUS COMPETITION
By far, the majority of millennials in the workforce (a
whopping 88 percent) say they would prefer to work
at a company that focuses on collaboration instead
of competition between employees. Along with that,
they want a work environment where new ideas are
embraced and the creative process is nurtured.

FLExIBILITy AND INTEGRATION
previous generations aimed for a good work-life
balance, but millennials realize that work and personal
lives are more intertwined than that. Instead, Gen
y seeks a work-life integration that blends and
combines business and pleasure seamlessly. More and
more employees are pursuing jobs that offer flexible
work schedules so they can incorporate
personal time in their professional
agenda. Some examples include
working from home one or more
days of the week, being able to
"flex" hours or taking a longer
maternity or paternity leave.

that blends and combines
b u s i n e s s a n d p l e a s u r e s e a m l e s s lY. "
These are just a few of the different aspects of company
culture that millennials consider when contemplating a
new job. If any of these benefits apply to your company,
flaunt them. When millennials know which options are
available, they're more likely to be attracted to and stay
with your company in the long run.
